It is a shame that everything about black women is politicized. Doesn’t really matter what choice you make. Either way, judgments about your character, personality, pride, blackness, and etc will be made because of it.

It’s really everything. Hair. Body shape/ size. Clothes. Sexuality. Tone of voice. Accent.

A lot of black women have internalized this politicization so we expect every black female to represent something. More than what she straight up is.

And personally, I’d like to wake up and just be me. I do my undergrad research and learn black intellectual theory. But I’m not about that life 24/7. That’s exhausting.

Sometimes, I just want to be pretty and autonomous on my own terms… without all of the constructs inflicted on black womanhood.
